The Onsite Diagnostics’ Nationally Accredited Drug & Alcohol Screening Officer training course (HLTPAT005 Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing) has been developed to address new legislative requirements for drug & alcohol testing in accordance with the following Australian Standards:

    • AS/NZS 4308:2008 Procedures for specimen collection and the detection and quantitation of drugs of abuse in urine.
      This Standard sets out procedures for specimen collection, screening, confirmation, quantitation and reporting of drugs in human urine as well as integrity testing of the specimen. The procedures are intended for but not limited to medico-legal, workplace, correctional services or court  directed testing of Amphetamine type substances, Benzodiazepines, Cannabis metabolites, Cocaine metabolites, Opiates.
    • AS/NZS 4760:2019 Procedures for specimen collection and the detection and quantitation of drugs in oral fluid.
      This Standard sets out procedures for oral fluid specimen collection,  storage, handling, on-site screening tests and, if required, dispatch to the laboratory. It also covers applicability of oral fluid for drug testing and general issues related to drug screening on-site and drug screening and/or confirmation in the laboratory.
    • AS 3547:1997 Breath alcohol testing devices for personal use.
      This Standard specifies requirements for the performance, testing and marking of disposable and re-usable breath alcohol testing devices for personal use, other than those devices used by the Police to obtain evidence which is used in the prosecution of drink-drivers.

In accordance with WH&S requirements all drug screening officers are required to hold a Statement of Attainment in accordance with the Australian Quality Training Framework under the definition of ‘Collector’ in the relevant Australian Standards. The unit HLTPAT005 Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing is a Nationally Accredited comprehensive pathology training course available via both distance/online learning or via classroom training.
